Sports Psychology

Students will be given an introduction to the theories and interventions employed by sport psychologists and sport psychology researchers. Students will learn how athletes impede their own performance and different techniques to help athletes get back on track.

HED 3265  Sports Admin— Higher Education
This course will focus on the scope and responsibilities of the administration and leadership for a collegiate athletics department and related recreation and wellness operations. This course will teach the foundations of sports administration, define the skills and attributes required of a sport administrator, and review the specific knowledge and competencies necessary to be a successful leader in a collegiate sports and recreation arena. Theory and application of these concepts will be incorporated in the class.

General history of college and university sports, athletics, intramurals and wellness programs as a broad introduction; emphasis on gender equity and NCAA norms and regulations related to intercollegiate sports.

INTS 3030  Sports and International Politics
From ancient times to the 21sat century, international sports have been infused with distinctly political significance. When the torch is lit and the play begins there is much more at stake than the simple winners and losers in the athletic disciplines - global sports is a deep-seated competition for national pride. This course explores the complex interplay between sports and international politics in the past and present.

This course features applied research on the intersection between sports and international politics in the Olympic Movement. The course addresses the question: Does the Olympic movement contribute to international peace? If so, how can we tangibly determine the impact and contribution athletes, games, and cross-cultural interactions make to international peace? How can the Olympic Movement's contribution to peace be strengthened?
