The Daniels MBA: One-year Program
An early and enduring commitment to ethics and values.
The Daniels College of Business was one of the first business colleges to incorporate
courses in business ethics and values-based leadership into its core curriculum.
With over 20 years of experience in this field, our faculty is regularly consulted
by colleges and universities worldwide who are embracing their responsibility to produce
business leaders with integrity.
A recognized leader in business ethics education.
We've been ranked one of the top 50 schools in the world for integrating social and
environmental issues into our MBA program by the Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes and we're a proud to support Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), a worldwide initiative that champions responsible management education, research
and thought leadership globally.
This commitment to ethics and integrity is woven through everything we do at Daniels, but it is best exemplified by the Daniels Compass course sequence and the Daniels Code of Honor.
Daniels Compass
The Daniels Compass is the ethical framework that cuts across our curriculum to enrich everything we do. It is a series of courses required of all MBA and specialized master's degree students. Compass courses provide students with an in-depth understanding of business' role in society and strategies for achieving the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit. Students emerge with the ethical bearings and leadership skills to navigate complex business situations and to consider the economic, ethical, legal, political and environmental implications of business decisions.
Daniels Compass courses:
- Essence of Enterprise/Leading at the Edge Weekend: Learn how to understand and manage relationships with multifaceted stakeholders. Topics covered: the opportunities at the bottom of the pyramid, socially responsible investing, sustainability, values-based leadership, community development and social entrepreneurship. Cohorts apply the classroom lessons of team building and complex problem solving during the Leading at the Edge weekend set in a challenging and changeable mountain setting.
- Ethics for the 21st Century Professional: Learn how to apply ethical decision making, professionalism and organizational ethics to business issues. The ethical dimensions of specific issues regarding government, civil society and business are examined.
- Creating Sustainable Enterprises: Creating sustainable enterprises involves understanding the business model in the context of social, cultural and environmental responsibility. Student teams collaborate on a strategic design document for a business that addresses all the dimensions of sustainability.
- Community Capital Project: Throughout the Compass coursework, student teams work to identify and address a gap in the social fabric using the Compass lessons as a guide.
Daniels Code of Honor
Learning at Daniels is exemplified by:
In 2007, a group of Daniels' graduating students worked with our faculty on a statement
about their education, the values that they had learned, and the way in which they
intended to conduct themselves. The words of these graduates are important to us at
Daniels because they reflect the central values of Daniels--the use of business knowledge,
ethical principles, and courageous leadership to improve society. All Daniels students
sign an oath at orientation to uphold the highest standards of ethics and academic
integrity. This oath is reaffirmed at graduation.
