Daniels Volunteer Activities

Junior Achievement – JA in a Day at Grant Middle School

Friday, April 11 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Contact:  Cody Sherrod at 303.871.3048 or csherrod@du.edu

Junior Achievement (JA) is a non-profit organization that uses hands-on activities to teach students (Kindergarten-12th grade) about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, workforce readiness and the importance of staying in school.

Daniels has adopted Grant Middle School and is providing the school with JA programs during the students’ entire day. You will get to interact with these students during the entire day and really make a lasting impact, far greater than the one day time requirement.

JA makes it easy to get involved by providing:

  • Personalized placement into a classroom that’s conveniently located to work or home
  • Staff support
  • Comprehensive training on all material
  • Step-by-step lesson plans

For more information about our programs and schools, visit www.jacolorado.org

So are you ready to be a JA Volunteer?

Project Homeless Connect 6

Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Contact:  Katie Symons at Katie.symons@du.edu

PHC is a partnership between DU, Denver’s Road Home and the Mile High United Way, serves as a one-stop shop. It will connect homeless individuals to services, including employment, housing, health care, legal resources, IDs, Social Security and food-stamp benefits. Homeless people will be bussed to and from DU for the event, and more than 60 service organizations from the Denver area will be present to serve them.

Project Homeless Connect is one facet of the City of Denver’s 10-year plan to end homelessness. Denver’s Road Home began in October 2003 in response to an increasing rise in homeless persons in the city and county of Denver and a mounting increase in public safety concerns.

Organizers say volunteer support from DU students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members is vital to the success of PHC 6. Volunteers will be matched one-to-one with a homeless participant for the day. All volunteers will go through an extensive training process. Volunteer registration will begin in early April. Volunteer registration will be available shortly at www.du.edu/engage.
