Daniels Scholarship Grants

Academic Year 2007 - 2008

Scholarship Steering Committee

Tom Cook, Bahman Ebrahimi, John Holcomb, Hugh Grove, John Holcomb, David Paul (Sab. Winter & Spring Qtr), Pallab Paul, Tom Obremski, and Joan Winn

The Scholarship Grant Program this Year

  1. Three rounds of applications:  September 28, 2006, January 11, 2008, and May 9, 2008.
  2. Focus on Publications in Targeted Journals and extended deadlines for clearing the grants
  3. Please list at least 3 outlets from the departmental targeted journal lists for the proposal.
  4. Award Amounts and Payment Schedule Under the New System

Authors receive full payment for the grant if the paper is accepted at a targeted journal within 3 years of the award date.

  • Single-author grants receive a total of $4,000 if the proposal is accepted in a targeted journal within 3 years of the award date.
  • Joint-authored (two or more authors) proposals receive $8,000 if the proposal is accepted in a targeted journal within 3 years of the award date.
  • No payments are made for acceptances after the 3 year period.
  • For acceptances in journals within the 3 year period but not on the target lists, one-half of the remaining funds under the grant will be paid.
  • Grant proposals that are not accepted for publication in refereed journals are not considered to be cleared

A “pay as you go” policy of making small payments for achieving certain milestones is used.

  • Authors will receive $500 each at the time the award is made,
  • another $500 payment to each author is made when a working paper or case and teaching note is submitted to either a refereed conference or a targeted journal within 15 months of the award date,
  • and the remaining funds under the grant when the working paper or case and teaching note is accepted for publication at a targeted journal within 3 years of the award date.

As noted above, a lesser payment is made for acceptances in journals not on the target lists.

  1. Faculty members are allowed a maximum of two open grants at the same time.
