Wayne Murdy retired as chairman of Newmont Mining Corporation in 2007, where he served as chairman for six years, CEO for seven years, president for two years and CFO for almost a decade. Mr. Murdy spent 15 years in senior financial positions in the oil and gas industry at Getty Oil Company and Apache Corporation. He began his business career in public accounting.
Mr. Murdy is a director of BHP Billiton Limited, BHP Billiton Plc, Weyerhaeuser Company and Qwest Communications International Inc. He is a trustee of the Denver Art Museum and a member of the College of Engineering Advisory Council at the University of Notre Dame. He was a founding board member of the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative of the World Economic Forum, past chairman of the International Council on Mining and Metals, and past director of the National Mining Association. Mr. Murdy received the Charles F. Rand Gold Medal of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers; was awarded an honorary doctorate of engineering from the Colorado School of Mines; and received the International Bridge Builders Award from the University of Denver. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Murdy holds a BSBA from California State University at Long Beach, which recognized him as a distinguished graduate in 2005.
