Learning Outcomes

Ability to Evaluate New Knowledge

This goal relates to critical thinking, and is recommended by our accrediting body, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International).  We want graduates to be able to read articles from the marketing literature and develop informed evaluations of the quality and validity of the opinions and findings reported in that literature. This ability also relates to our graduates' ability to read business cases and form recommendations by critically evaluating the information presented in the case. This goal maps to the University's graduate goal of Critical Intellectual Engagement.

Technical Knowledge (discipline-specific)

This goal captures discipline-based knowledge of the content in the marketing area, including basic knowledge of definitions as well as the ability to apply knowledge in new contexts. This goal maps to the University's graduate goal of Advanced Theoretical/Disciplinary Knowledge and Skills.

Written Communications

Our students should be competent writers, both in terms of how clearly their thoughts come through on papers and in terms of the quality of the writing mechanics demonstrated in their written work. This goal maps to the University's graduate goal of Advanced Theoretical/Disciplinary Knowledge and Skills.

Oral Communications

Our students should also be competent presenters, knowing the basics recommendations for professional presentations as well as being able to perform professional presentations. This goal maps to the University's graduate goal of Advanced Theoretical/Disciplinary Knowledge and Skills.

Compass Skills

The Daniels College of Business currently requires all students to complete several core courses, referred to collectively as the Compass. The learning goals of these courses are related to ethics, innovation and sustainability. This goal maps to the University's graduate goals of Professional/Ethical Identity, Values and Leadership, and Intercultural and Local/Global Engagement.
